چکیده

We propose to extend standard Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) usage by storing semantically annotated data within RFID tags memory, so that objects may actually ‘describe themselves’ in avarietyof scenarios. Inparticularherewe exploit our approach to carry out an advanced matchmaking process using metadata stored in RFIDs. A ‘fully backward compatible’ modification to the original RFID data exchange protocol is presented, allowing to implement an advanced resource discovery framework. A compression algorithm specifically devised to ease embedding of annotated DIG description is also proposed. Motivations and benefits of the approach are outlined in a tracking of agricultural and food products case study.

Weighted-HR: An Improved Hierarchical Grid Resource Discovery

Grid computing environments include heterogeneous resources shared by a large number of computers to handle the data and process intensive applications. In these environments, the required resources must be accessible for Grid applications on demand, which makes the resource discovery as a critical service. In recent years, various techniques are proposed to index and discover the Grid resource...

A Ubiquitous Knowledge-based System to Enable RFID Object Discovery in Smart Environments

A ubiquitous Knowledge Base (u-KB) is a distributed and decentralized knowledge base where the factual knowledge (i.e. individuals) is scattered between objects disseminated within a given environment with no centralized coordination. Such a vision enables a truly pervasive environment where autonomous objects set up a self-organized discovery architecture. This paper presents an extended frame...

Resource discovery in modern computing environments

Resource discovery is an integral part of many kinds of computing environments, including emerging heterogeneous environments for pervasive computing. This paper characterises a number of current and future computing environments and summarises their resource discovery requirements. It then analyses, with respect to the requirements of each environment, several established service discovery pro...

A New Approach to Resource Discovery and Dissemination for Pervasive Computing Environments Based on Mobile Agents

Pervasive computing, as a new branch in the eld of distributed computing, has received wide contribution from di erent researchers. In this novel computing model, a vast range of computational and communication resources, along with other types of service, are gathered under a single system image based on certain prede ned criteria. To create a transparent environment and provide end-users with...
